I love moodboards/collages/inspiration boards - you name it. Growing up, I loved sifting through magazines like YM!, Seventeen, and Nickelodeon and spending hours on layouts, emerging with fingers covered in glue. See exhibit A below capturing my undying love for Leo.
Words often feel limiting and I naturally lean toward more visual formats. I might not be an artist in the traditional sense, but curating a collage from others' masterpieces makes my heart sing. When I was at Everytable, it was this very knack that helped shape the design of the first store in South LA. This design would later become a template for their expansion in California and New York.
As LOTA takes shape, moodboards are back in the spotlight. Currently, I’m curating art in the homes of my family and friends - filling them with the emerging artists I’ve featured on LOTA and discovering more. The boards aren’t about aesthetics alone; they're about capturing the essence of spaces and the stories behind them.
Here’s a sneak peek into three of the upcoming spaces I’m working on:
Retro Vibes
First up, a 70s inspired space exuding ease, tranquility, and infectious energy. Using a foundation of oranges and yellows, the vision is to add contrast with graphical elements and vibrant greens and blues to balance the past with a modern vibe.
Modern Soul
Think contemporary California home rooted in earth tones and layered organic textures. The art selected here will add heart and soul to the space by incorporating colors and shapes that resonate with this family’s stories.
Playful Wonder
A kids playroom and bedroom that is designed to ignite curiosity and offer moments of calm. The art here is a reflection of that yin and yang with bright, saturated colors in some pieces and soft pastels in others.
I am so excited to share progress on these spaces. Which one resonates with you? Any artist suggestions to feature?
